WASHINGTON (AP) - The White House says Vice President Joe Biden is heading to the Capitol to have dinner with first-term House Democrats.

House Democratic Whip Steny Hoyer of Maryland organized the event and plans to join the Monday night dinner.

Hoyer's office and the White House wouldn't say which freshman Democrats are attending or the purpose of the dinner. But it comes as the Obama administration is seeking to calm concerns among congressional Democrats about problems with the rollout of President Barack Obama's health care law.

A growing number of Democrats want to extend the enrollment deadline, increasing the pressure on the White House.

Biden has also been active in recruiting Democratic candidates to run for House. Earlier this month Biden canceled a fundraiser for House Democrats due to the government shutdown.
