LONDON (AP) - Disappointed officials at Edinburgh Zoo say giant panda Tian Tian, who was thought to be pregnant, apparently has suffered a miscarriage.

Officials said Tuesday they believe the panda also known as Sweetie was successfully inseminated in April but had suffered a miscarriage near the end of her pregnancy.

A zoo statement says her "hormonal and behavioral signs" indicate that she had conceived and was carrying a fetus until late term.

The panda had been artificially inseminated in April.
