NANTUCKET, Mass. (AP) — A tearjerker about a family dealing with a mother's death to cancer has won top honors at the Nantucket Film Festival .

"Other People," a comedic drama starring Molly Shannon, was awarded best narrative feature Sunday. The movie premiered earlier this year at the Sundance Film Festival and marked writer Chris Kelly's feature directorial debut.

Kelly and Shannon both made their marks on "Saturday Night Live."

The film follows a family across the year their mother is dying.

Shannon also was recognized over the weekend with Nantucket's Compass Rose Acting Award, given to an actor who has inspired great storytelling in film.

Oliver Stone received the festival's Screenwriters Tribute at the event hosted by Seth Myers.
