ACCRA, Ghana (AP) - Ghana's supreme court has upheld the results of the last presidential election following an opposition challenge.
Justice William Atuguba read the announcement Thursday, which confirms President John Mahama's victory.
The New Patriotic Party had cited irregularities during the vote held in December, though opposition leader Nana Akufo-Addo told the media Thursday he accepts the decision of the court.
Mahama had won the election with 50.7 percent of the vote, according to the country's electoral body. Akufo-Addo came in second with 47.7 percent of the vote.
Ghana, a West African nation of 25 million people, is one of the few established and stable democracies in the region.
The government called on citizens to act in a way that "will further enhance Ghana's credentials as a land of peace and stability."
