POCATELLO, Idaho - C. J. Tuckett set a school rushing record and the Weber State football team finished its season on a high note with a 40-14 win at Idaho State Saturday in Holt Arena. The win is Weber State's 10th straight over the Bengals.
Playing in the final game of his career Tuckett set a Weber State school record with 289 rushing yards as Weber State rushed for 417 total rushing yards, the fifth most in school history. Idaho State finished the game with one rushing yard. Tuckett broke the record of 280 yards held by Markieth Ross in 1993 at Nevada.
Weber State got off to a great start in the game scoring on their first possession on a C. J. Tuckett four-yard touchdown. WSU went for two and converted and led 8-0. They came back on their next possession and Mike Hoke had a three-yard touchdown run. After another two-point conversion WSU led 16-0 with 5:45 to play in the first quarter.
They opened the second quarter with a 22-yard field goal by Shaun McClain and later in the quarter Hoke found Jordan Clemente for a 7-yard touchdown. WSU again converted on a two-point play and the ‘Cats led 27-0 at halftime.
Idaho State started the second half with a 81-yard touchdown from Kevin Yost to Rodrick Rumble and then Rumble caught a 33-yard touchdown and ISU cut the lead to 27-14 after three quarters.
Tuckett took over in the fourth quarter and rushed in for a 19-yard touchdown with 10:21 to play. After he set the school record late in the game Kris Parham rushed in for a five-yard touchdown to seal the win for the Wildcats.
"It was a lot of fun today for Weber State," said WSU head coach Jody Sears. "Our kids really showed up and played hard and wanted to win so badly. I was so proud of our effort and how we fought so hard. Our offense really performed well and it was a great team effort. It's a great achievement for C.J. and I'm so happy for him, all of our seniors and for the whole team."
Weber State finished the day with a season-high 525 total yards of offense, compared to 307 for Idaho State. The Wildcats did not throw pass in the fourth quarter.
"This game was a lot of fun and it was a great way to finish my career," Tuckett said. "I'm so happy for our seniors and this is exactly how we wanted to finish our season."
Tuckett finished his career with 1,633 rushing yards which ranks 13th in school history.
WSU senior quarterback Mike Hoke finished the day 10-16 passing for 108 yards and one touchdown. Jordan Clemente had three catches for 28 yards and one touchdown.
The ‘Cats were playing without starting linebacker Anthony Morales who did not play after having his appendix out earlier in the week.
The win ends Weber State's season with a 2-9 overall record and a 2-6 mark in Big Sky play. Idaho State ends their season at 1-10 and were 0-8 in conference play.
