CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — The leader of a Charlotte-based medical missionary group is asking people to pray for two missionaries who contracted the deadly Ebola virus in Liberia.
One of the missionaries is Nancy Writebol of Charlotte.
SIM president Bruce Johnson said Tuesday he spoke to Writebol's husband, David, who says Nancy is in stable condition but fighting for her life.
Johnson says the Writebol's Charlotte church will hold a prayer service Wednesday night for Nancy and Kent Brantly, another medical missionary who is fighting the disease.
The Writebols began their missionary work last year for SIM.
There is no known cure for Ebola, which begins with symptoms including fever and sore throat and escalates to vomiting, diarrhea and internal bleeding. The disease spreads through direct contact with blood and other bodily fluids.
