SALT LAKE CITY — Plans to build two new temples in Utah were announced at last month's general conference of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and on Monday, church leaders announced locations where the West Jordan and Lehi temples will be built.
West Jordan temple
West Jordan's first temple will be built on a 16.10-acre site west of state Route 111 at approximately 7148 South.
The revealed plans show the West Jordan Utah Temple will be multiple stories high and take up approximately 85,000 square feet. The site will also include a new meetinghouse.
Lehi temple
The Lehi Utah Temple will be constructed on a 22.48-acre site northwest of the intersection of 3950 North and Center Street in Lehi.
Similar to West Jordan's temple design, the Lehi temple will measure 85,000 square feet, have multiple stories and include a new meetinghouse.
"Time in the temple will help you to think celestial and to catch a vision of who you really are, who you can become, and the kind of life you can have forever," President Russell M. Nelson said before announcing the Lehi and West Jordan temples. "Regular temple worship will enhance the way you see yourself and how you fit into God's magnificent plan. I promise you that."
These temples join a long list of temples of the Church of Jesus Christ under construction in the Beehive State, including in Ephraim, Heber Valley, Lindon, Smithfield, Syracuse and Tooele.
The Taylorsville Utah Temple will be dedicated on Sunday, June 2 and the Layton Utah Temple will be dedicated on Sunday, June 16. Public open houses are currently underway at both temples.
