LEHI — A man whose behavior police described as "very psychotic, erratic and combative" was arrested April 10 for allegedly attacking passengers on a FrontRunner train with a fire extinguisher and rocks.
Luis Contreras Gomez, 32, of Salt Lake City was charged Monday in 4th District Court with drug possession with intent to distribute and commercial obstruction, second-degree felonies; four counts of aggravated assault, a third-degree felony; causing property damage, a class A misdemeanor; and assault, interfering with an officer and possession of drug paraphernalia, class B misdemeanors.
Gomez was on a FrontRunner train in Utah County on the evening of April 10 when he "grabbed a fire extinguisher and began to spray others in the train car," a police booking affidavit states. "The train was stopped and the victims on the train quickly exited the train. Luis exited the train and began to throw rocks at multiple people on the platform and victims that were in the car with him."
Police responded to the Lehi Station where Gomez was trying to crawl under a fence, according to officers who noted that his "behavior was very psychotic, erratic and combative," the affidavit states.
After he was arrested, "Luis continued to be combative with officers. He was spitting and screaming crude comments at the officers and medical (personnel)," according to the arrest report. As he was being taken to a local hospital to be checked out, he continued to be combative and scream crude comments, police said.
When Gomez was searched, police reported finding 47 fentanyl pills and drug paraphernalia.
