MOAB — The body found inside a car in a remote area of Grand County on over the weekend has been identified as a Colorado woman who has been missing for several months.
The Mesa County Sheriff's Office in Colorado announced Tuesday it had obtained confirmation from the Utah Medical Examiner's Office that the deceased is Melissa Gonzales, 70, who was reported missing on Nov. 15, 2022. The car belongs to Gonzales, the sheriff's office said.
The car was found at about 7:20 a.m. on Sunday in the Book Cliffs north of Moab. The condition of the car was "consistent with a motor vehicle accident having no suspicious circumstances at this time," the Grand County Sheriff's Office said in a statement.
The car was located while the Utah Department of Natural Resources was doing research in the area via helicopter.
