SALT LAKE CITY — A man died Tuesday night after being involved in an auto-pedestrian accident near 1460 S. State Street.

Salt Lake City Police received a call about a person being hit by a vehicle at approximately 7:30 p.m. Upon arrival, officers found the victim in the road and attempted life-saving efforts, but the victim died on the scene, police said Tuesday in a news release.

According to police reports, the man was struck by a "small commercial-style van" that was traveling southbound on State Street when the pedestrian "appeared to be attempting to cross South State Street."

The incident is currently under investigation, and the driver of the van is cooperating with officials, police said.

The name of the accident victim has not been released.

As of 10 p.m. Tuesday, southbound State Street was expected to be closed from 1300 South to Cleveland Avenue for several hours, and drivers were asked to take an alternate route.
