WELLINGTON, Carbon County — One person died early Sunday morning in a rollover accident near Wellington.

The crash happened about 6:07 a.m. near Miller's Travel Center, according to the Wellington Fire Department on Facebook. Officials said there were seven total occupants traveling eastbound on state Route 6 in a Toyota Sienna minivan.

The minivan was traveling at a high speed when it veered right, then left the roadway before it went airborne twice and hit an embankment, according to Utah Highway Patrol Corporal Colton Freckleton.

Freckleton said a 20-year-old man was found dead at the scene and multiple people were ejected from the flipped vehicle. He was identified Monday as Kevin J. Bersuch, of Hamberg, New Jersey, according to UHP.

Only some of the occupants were wearing seatbelts.

"Vehicle occupants received critical injuries along with one sustaining fatal injuries," Wellington Fire wrote, adding that the six injured passengers were all transported to a local hospital.

All of the occupants were from Texas and New Jersey, but officials do not know why they were in Utah. The driver was a 23-year-old man from Texas, and the other passengers were between the ages of 22 and 30.

The department said it was assisted by the Utah Highway Patrol, Price police, the Carbon County Sheriff's Office, Price City Fire Department and Carbon County Ambulance.

The investigation of the crash is ongoing. No impairment is suspected, but officials are unsure why the driver was speeding. Drowsy driving was likely the cause for why the vehicle drifted off of the highway, according to UHP.
