TOOELE — One person is dead in Tooele County after colliding with a semitruck just miles away from the Tooele-Juab county border.

The wreck happened about 10:48 a.m., according to a news release from the Utah Department of Public Safety. A Lincoln LS was traveling south when, for an unknown reason, it swerved in front of the semitruck and hit it head-on.

Utah Highway Patrol Trooper Vargas said the driver died from the crash; there did not appear to be any passengers. The DPS said the semitruck driver was unharmed.

Vargas said the semitruck spilled approximately 300 gallons of fuel and hazmat crews were dispatched to the scene. The Utah Department of Transportation tweeted the road will be closed 2 miles from the county line, but Vargas said later Saturday that the road had reopened.

The driver's name was not released Saturday.
