MILLCREEK — Two people were injured, one critically, after a THC extraction lab explosion inside a home Tuesday afternoon, authorities said.

Emergency crews responded to a report of an explosion at a home located at 3329 S. Scott Court about 2 p.m., according to Unified Police Sgt. Melody Gray.

Gray said a 33-year-old woman was transported to a hospital in critical condition with burns to her face, arms and neck, as well as injuries caused from the explosion. A 30-year-old man suffered minor injuries and was not transported to a hospital.

Firefighters arriving at the scene quickly learned that it was a lab to extract oil from THC. THC, or tetrahydrocannabinol, is the active ingredient of cannabis. Gray didn't go too much into detail about the lab but said it was illegal.

"Some damage" was also done to the home, but it was declared safe for investigators to enter, Gray said.

Detectives remained at the home Tuesday afternoon to execute a search warrant to examine the illegal drug lab and to determine what caused the explosion, Gray added. She said charges would likely be filed in the case.

Two people living in the upstairs portion of the home were uninjured. It was unknown if those people were involved with drug extracting going on inside the home.
