IDAHO FALLS, Idaho — A man who recently moved to Utah was kidnapped in Mexico but says he is now safe.
Bob Meek was traveling on business in Mexico when he says he was kidnapped.
Meek works for Utah Onions Inc., where he was named CEO in April of this year. He was an Idaho Falls, Idaho, stake president with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints prior to moving to Utah.
Multiple members of his Idaho Falls stake said they got regular updates from church leaders on Meek's situation Friday.
Meek spoke with EastIdahoNews.com briefly on the phone around 4 p.m. He said he was safe at a police department in Mexico and confirmed he had been been held for ransom.
Meek said he was unable to go into detail about the circumstance but said, "Please just let everyone know I am safe now."
EastIdahoNews.com reached out to the FBI, which was unable to give details about the kidnapping but did confirm that Meek was in Mexican police custody Friday afternoon.
Family friends say Meek is expected to arrive in Salt Lake City late Friday evening.
