LONG BEACH, Calif. (AP) — Branford Jones had a go-ahead 3-point play with 3:57 left and Long Beach State deflected two BYU inbound passes in the final 4 seconds to secure a 66-65 victory over the Cougars on Tuesday morning.

Travis Hammonds followed Jones' basket and free throw with a 3-pointer to give Long Beach State a 65-61 lead. Later, Hammonds made 1 of 2 free throws for a 66-64 lead and Kyle Collinsworth made 1 of 2 with 38.5 seconds left.

After Long Beach State missed two free throws with 3 seconds left, BYU was not able to get a final shot off.

Noah Blackwell scored 11 points for Long Beach State (2-0).

Collinsworth, who set a single-season NCAA record with six triple-doubles last season, had 12 points, 12 rebounds and six assists for BYU (1-1).

Before the game, Long Beach State honored Nohemi Gonzalez, a LBSU student who was killed in the terrorist attacks in Paris.
