PROVO — The warm, sweet-tasting waffles Utahns love are stealing hearts around the nation as their creators compete for $50,000 in Food Network's "The Great Food Truck Race."

Waffle Love was chosen to vie for the grand prize with six other food trucks as they create their dishes for customers around the country, according to founder Adam Terry.

Now, the local food truck has made it to the top three.

Terry works in the truck alongside his brothers, Steve and Jared. The three of them had not previously worked by themselves on the truck before.

The competitors have traveled to California, Arizona, New Mexico and Texas as they make and sell as many waffles as they can and face various cooking challenges.

At one point, the brothers were tasked with making fish and chips, something that Terry said turned out really good.

The fish was fried just as the traditional dish calls for, but the chips, made of potatoes and egg, were waffled and then fried, making for chips that were crispy on the outside and moist in the middle.

"It was really fun, because … you never know what they're going to ask you to do," Terry said of the challenges they faced on the show. "And since we're a waffle truck, adapting it to our brand was always an interesting experience."

Terry said he thinks many great things will come from their experience on the show, one being that people around the country have been exposed to their brand.

"I learned we have a lot of fans across the nation … that have a lot of connections, and it's just been really cool to see how awesome and generous people are, and we're very grateful for everyone that supported us, and as far as we've gotten in the race ... it's just a total dream come true." Terry said.

The next episode of "The Great Food Truck Race" will air Sunday at 7 p.m. The episode will feature Waffle Love, Pho Nomenal Dumplings and GD Bro Truck competing in Tulsa.

Waffle Love has trucks in Salt Lake County and areas north of Salt Lake and a truck in Utah County. It also has a store in Utah County and is opening stores in Bountiful, Salt Lake County and Gilbert, Arizona.
