PROVO — BYU forward Ashley Hatch was one of 28 soccer players named to the Hermann Trophy watch list by the Missouri Athletic Club on Wednesday.

The award, presented annually to the best male and female college soccer players in the nation, had 13 NSCAA All-Americans on the list, including Hatch.

The Gilbert, Arizona, native tallied 18 goals and six assists in 2014 en route to All-American honors, the fifth-most goals in a single season in BYU women's soccer history. She has 23 goals and 13 assists for the Cougars.

Hatch, the reigning West Coast Conference player of the year, is the sixth BYU player to ever be nominated for the watch list, and the first since Lindsi Cutshall in 2012. The New Jersey-based Sky Blue FC defender was a semifinalist for the award in her second-straight year on the watch list.

Hatch joins Aleisha Rose, Jessica Harmon Carter, Katie Larkin and Andrea Willis as Hermann Trophy watch list candidates from BYU.

The junior forward is the only candidate from the West Coast Conference in 2014 on both the men's and women's lists. The Cougars will face two watchlisters on the first road trip of the year, Aug. 24 in Hawaii against Stanford goalkeeper Jane Campbell and Cardinal midfielder Andi Sullivan.

The committee will announce the 15 semifinalists in November, and a winner will be selected from the list in a ceremony in January.

BYU opens its season with an exhibition game Aug. 15 against Arizona at South Field. After the trip to Hawaii to face Stanford and Cal, BYU returns home for its home opener Aug. 28 against Colorado.
