OGDEN — An Ogden man pleaded guilty Monday to brutally suffocating and beating a single mother to death in her Washington Terrace apartment.

Lyle Robert London, 38, pleaded guilty to aggravated murder, a first-degree felony, admitting to killing 32-year-old Lindsay Holbrook. She was found dead in her apartment on March 1.

In exchange for his plea, additional felony charges of obstructing justice, desecration of a human body, unlawful acquisition of a financial transaction card, and unlawful use of financial transaction card were dismissed, along with a misdemeanor charge of giving false personal information.

London will be sentenced Aug. 3 in 2nd District Court. He faces 25 years to life in prison and up to $20,000 in fines.

Holbrook's body was found when police went to her apartment, 374 E. Ridgeland Drive, to inform her that her car had been involved in a hit-and-run accident with London at the wheel.

In exchange for my plea, the state agrees to reduce the charge against my spouse to one third-degree felony and to remain silent at her sentencing.

–Lyle London

Holbrook had been the victim of a financial crime being investigated by the Weber County Sheriff's Office before her death, and the description of a suspect in that case, London, matched that of the hit-and-run driver, charges state.

London initially told investigators he had been having sex with Holbrook at her home and fell on top of her, possibly breaking her neck, charging documents state. Holbrook was still making noises, he said, and so he put his belt around her throat, used duct tape to put pillows on her head, and then hit her several times in the head with a baseball bat, according to the charges.

London then wrapped Holbrook's body in a blanket and hid it in a closet.

London's wife, Shuree Laness London, 35, was also arrested and charged with obstructing justice. As part of her husband's plea, the charge against Shuree London was reduced to a third-degree felony.

Shuree London is accused of helping her husband get money from Holbrook's accounts, all while knowing the woman was dead.

"In exchange for my plea, the state agrees to reduce the charge against my spouse to one third-degree felony and to remain silent at her sentencing," Lyle London stipulated in a plea agreement filed Monday. "I understand that the victim's family will be allowed to address the court during my sentencing and my spouse's sentencing."
