TOOELE — Police have determined a woman found dead in her home on Friday met with foul play, and they are now looking for a suspect and scouring her car, which was found Saturday evening in Kearns.

Evelynne Derricott, 70, did not answer the door of her home at 410 Havasu Drive when a friend knocked Friday morning, so the friend went inside and found her dead. "Over the course of the investigation we learned there were some real suspicious elements to the scene," said Tooele Police Lt. Paul Wimmer.

Derricott's car was missing, and an autopsy by the state Medical Examiner's office led police to declare the death a homicide.

Residents of a Kearns neighborhood near 5300 West and 5800 South spotted her car Saturday evening, telling police it had "kinda been dumped in the neighborhood," Wimmer said. "They said it just kind of showed up." The car is an active part of the police investigation.

Wimmer said Tooele police have seen "plenty of garage burglaries, where people will break into a garage or go into an open garage, but seldom we get them where they go into the house. We haven't ruled out the possibility she surprised someone in the garage."

But Wimmer said the investigation is still in its early stages, and they have not made any conclusions about how someone might have gotten into the home of the victim, who lived alone.

Police ask anyone with information about a possible suspect to call 435-882-5600.
