PROVO -- A Lehi doctor accused of hiding cameras in an exam room and sexually assaulted a female employee made his first court appearance Monday. Dr. Steven Pack appeared in Provo's 4th District Court for a short hearing to hear the charges against him.
It's the result of an investigation which continued for several weeks after his arrest in August and resulted in felony charges of forcible sex abuse.
Pack was arrested after Lehi police were notified on July 31 that some female employees in their teens had been asked to change into medical gowns to test out some X-ray equipment at an urgent care clinic in Lehi.
They discovered the hidden camera on the wall of the exam room and confronted Pack, who police say then attempted to delete the inappropriate images.
Utah County Prosecutor Chad Grunander said, "We have numerous charges that we've charged: two counts of forcible sex abuse, two counts of voyeurism and one count of obstruction of justice. So there was a good, thorough investigation that went on, and before we file any charges, we have to ensure that we have at least probable cause to file the charges, so we look forward to prosecuting the case."
Dr. Pack and his attorney left the courtroom without responding to the allegations.
Pack also faces an investigation by the Division of Occupational and Professional Licensing. He has faced previous license sanctions for unrelated violations.
In addition, one of his former employees has filed a civil suit against him.
Steven Pack will return to court in late December, when the case will be set for a preliminary hearing.
