HEBER CITY — A 16-year-old died after a two-car crash on U.S. Highway 40 Friday afternoon, officials said.
The crash took place about 3:30 p.m. near 3000 N. Highway 40 when a Toyota Highlander traveling east crossed over into the westbound lanes and collided head-on with a Mazda 6, Utah Highway Patrol officials said via the agency's website.
The driver of the Mazda, identified by officials as Victor Benitez, was killed in the crash.
The other driver, Susan Burton, 78, was flown by a medical helicopter to University Hospital life-threatening injuries, UHP officials said.
Troopers are working to determine what caused Burton to cross over into oncoming traffic.
Both directions of Highway 40 were closed near milepost 15, at 2700 North, after the crash, Utah Department of Transportation officials said on Twitter. One lane of traffic was open in each direction as of 7:30 p.m.
