KEARNS — A 55-year-old man was critically injured in a motorcycle crash on Saturday night, police say.

The man was traveling north on 5600 West near 5470 South at about 8:30 p.m., Saturday, when he hit his brakes for an unknown reason, according to Unified Police detective Ken Hansen.

The man skidded about 100 feet down the road on the bike, Hansen said. He then hit his brakes a second time, lost control of the bike, which then came out from under him, and he slid down the roadway, the detective said. Hansen did not know how far the man slid.

The man, whose name was not immediately released, was not wearing a helmet and broke several bones, Hansen said.

He was in critical condition and was not responding to medical treatment as of Sunday morning, Hansen added.
