HOLLADAY — Police said a blue-nosed pit bull is reported missing after an unusual home break-in this week.

The 8-month-old dog was reported stolen out of a home at 5200 South and 1800 East Wednesday, said Unified Police Lt. Brian Lohrke.

Nothing besides the dog, named Baloo, was taken from the residence, said her owner, Paige Vlaanderen. She believes Baloo was likely targeted specifically in the break-in, perhaps "for breeding purposes."

"They didn't take anything but her and her leash," Vlaanderen said.

She made a plea for anyone who knows her pet's whereabouts to drop her off at an animal shelter or otherwise return her.

"She's like my best friend. She snuggles all night with me," Vlaanderen said. "I really miss her. … We just want her back."

Baloo has some white fur on her chest, white paws and blue eyes and probably weighs between 40 and 50 pounds, according to Vlaanderen.

Anyone with information about this case is asked to call Unified police at 801-743-7000.
