WEST VALLEY — A high-speed car chase in West Valley ended in a crash and the arrest of two teens, Saturday morning.

Police initiated a traffic stop on a Honda Accord with no plates at 3:11 a.m., but the vehicle failed to yield so a chase ensued, according to West Valley Police Sgt. Robert Brinton.

The vehicle managed to get to Bacchus Highway, and “began traveling southbound in a northbound lane,” Brinton said.

“There wasn’t any traffic out, so we continued the pursuit,” said Brinton.

Police terminated their pursuit after they saw an oncoming vehicle, but later found the Honda heading eastbound on 5400 South.

Officers set up a spike trap at 4100 S. 5600 West and were able to spike the tires of the vehicle. The vehicle continued to flee with two tires on “on rims” according to Brinton. Officers pursued as the vehicle continued on to 2400 S. 5600 West.

The vehicle made it to the Frontage Road and appeared to be heading for Highway 201, but the driver was unable to negotiate a turn, and "jumped the center median barrier. Basically wrecked the car," Brinton said.

The driver and passenger — two males, ages 16 and 15 — were arrested. Both had gang affiliations, Brinton said.

Police did not indicated which teen was driving the vehicle.

Police indicated the chase was "high speed" but did not know how fast vehicles were driving.

Police did not say how long the chase lasted.

During the pursuit, a police K-9 vehicle was damaged, Brinton said.
