OGDEN — Many parts of Utah have seen snow storm after snow storm. All of that snow causes problems for the U.S. Postal Service, as mail carriers attempt to make their deliveries to your mailbox.
Chad Russell has been delivering mail for 21 years, and his Ogden route has had a lot of snow this month. But for mail carriers, there's that old motto: "Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds.”
“I don't know if I agree with it all the time, but yeah, there's pride in it and (it's) an institution that's been around a long time, right?" Russell said.
But the amount of snow is making it difficult for him to do his job.
“There’s a lot of hopping to get out to the mailboxes and with the snow, it's quite a ways away,” he said.
The extra work is causing him to get home about two hours later than usual.
“I got about 760 deliveries, so this snow really does slow it up,” he said.
Many homeowners will clear a path to their mailbox while they shovel their driveway. But not everyone does it.
“Just clean out the boxes so we can get access to them. That'd be most important," Russell said.
Of course, not everyone is able to shovel out their mailboxes, mainly for physical reasons, and mail carriers understand that. But for those who can shovel out their mailboxes, it's appreciated so mail carriers can spend more time at home with their families.
