HUNTSVILLE, Weber County — A skier died after apparently hitting a tree at Snowbasin Resort on Saturday, police confirmed.

Weber County Sheriff’s Lt. Nate Hutchinson said at about 1:10 p.m., police were called out on a traumatic injury at the ski resort. The male victim, whose identity has not been released, apparently hit a tree, Hutchinson said.

The ski patrol initially called for a helicopter, but because of weather conditions, the man had to be brought down the mountain to a waiting ambulance that transported him to a hospital where he later died, Hutchinson said.

Hutchinson said there were no witnesses to the incident and another skier found the victim. Hutchinson said the man was skiing within the resort's boundaries on a regular slope and did not know his age or if he was wearing a helmet.
