OGDEN — One man is dead and another man has been arrested following a shooting and standoff in Ogden.

Ogden police said the incident began shortly before 5 p.m. in the area of 26th Street and Adams Avenue, when one man was shot and another man, the alleged shooter, barricaded himself in an apartment complex.

Some officers were in the area after conducting an unrelated investigation and hurried to the scene after hearing gunfire coming from in front of the apartment complex, said Ogden Police Lt. Brian Eynon. Police moved the victim to a safer location nearby, but he died before being transported to a hospital, Eynon said.

Police asked people were stay away from the 2600 South and 2700 South blocks in that area. A SWAT unit was called out and surrounded the complex. The Weber County Homicide Task Force also responded to the area.

The standoff ended shortly before 9 p.m when the alleged shooter surrendered peacefully, Eynon said.

Neither man's name was released and it wasn't clear whether they knew each other. Both were in their 20s, Eynon said.

"There was some sort confrontation in the front of the apartment complex," he said, but others details about a possible motive were sparse Friday night.

Whether the incident was gang-related was still being investigated with the help of gang unit detectives. Others were present at the time of the shooting, Eynon said, and police are still sorting out "whether they're witnesses or additional suspects."

Investigators don't believe the man who died fired any shots, according to the lieutenant.

At least one neighbor felt rattled by the violent incident.

"It's scary to know that people getting shot on (my street) now," Hunter Wiggins said. "(It) definitely makes me want to open my eyes more."
