SALT LAKE CITY — Box Elder has been living in the postseason for a month.

The Bees won three of their last four games in the regular season to sneak into the Class 4A playoffs with a 5-5 record, earning a chance to face Region 6 champion Olympus on the road.

And they made the most of it.

Kole Evans ran off tackle for a five-yard score in the second overtime, and Box Elder held on for a 28-21 upset in the first round of the Class 4A state playoffs Friday night at Olympus.

BYU commit Ben Bywater scored on a 12-yard run in overtime, but the Bees (6-5) answered with Dylan Rodriguez’s third touchdown of the game with a 7-yard pass to Tracer Wilson to force a second extra period. Rodriguez helped Box Elder to a 14-0 lead after three quarters, but Sawyer Pierce rallied the Titans (8-3) to force overtime on a 9-yard pass to Sam Sherwood with one minute remaining.

Box Elder will play at the winner of Maple Mountain and Provo, which will be played Saturday at 1 p.m. at Maple Mountain.
