SALT LAKE CITY — Three more fun stories from around the world of sports in today's From Left Field!
1. Showing the professional kickers how it's done... in dress shoes
Monday Night Football's game ended in a tie after kickers Chandler Catanzaro and Stephen (Steven?) Hauschka missed matching sub-30-yard field goals, so the NFL on ESPN crew had their opportunity to show off just how difficult a field goal is.
Except it's not that difficult. Because Randy Moss made two of them in dress shoes.
Hey, and props to Moss for the dance at the end. We don't see enough of those skills from kickers either.
Oh, and don't forget Kimi Miyashima kicking the field goal in heels on the Utes' field:
2. Ryan Lochte has wished his dog a happy 8th birthday three times now
Ryan Lochte is not world-renowned for his intelligence, but instead for his swimming skills. But at a certain point, shouldn't you stop wishing your dog a happy 8th birthday?
It's not like eight is a special number. Nine is a completely fine age for a dog to be. So is 10. Don't ignore your dog's mortality, Ryan.
3. Raiders punter is fast
We did a fair amount of hating above on kickers for their lack of ability to make short field goals. But in this From Left Field, there's love for a punter: Raiders punter Marquette King who converted a fourth-and-24 by being the fastest person on the field Sunday.
He outran everyone! He's the punter! I say the Raiders should use King as a receiver, just to see what happens. Why not? (Don't answer that.)
