CLEARFIELD — A local 17-year-old who endured two brain tumors in his short life died Monday.

Joshua Jones was diagnosed with a brain tumor when he was 8 years old and underwent six weeks of full brain and spine radiation and 59 weeks of inpatient chemotherapy. Prior to his second diagnosis, Joshua earned his Eagle Scout, even though his treatment left him with mental challenges, according to his mom, Ruth Jones.

In April, he was diagnosed with a brain tumor once more. At 10:30 a.m. Monday, he passed away from the stage 4 brain tumor, according to Ruth Jones.

“I think the biggest thing Josh will be remembered for was his ability to love and his enthusiasm for living,” Ruth Jones said. “He did everything big. And he loved everybody. It’s amazing to me how many people are posting on the web saying, ‘... I just love Josh, he was so wonderful, he made me feel so good.’ It’s overwhelming, but he loved everybody.”

In spite of his circumstance, Joshua Jones had a positive attitude towards life. According to his mom, he maintained that positive attitude at the end of his life.

Ruth Jones said her family is holding up.

“We’re grateful that he doesn’t suffer anymore,” she said. “We miss him desperately already and we’re just grateful that he’s happy and that he’s doing what he was always meant to do.”

Joshua Jones’ viewing will be held Friday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. and Saturday morning from 9 to 10 a.m. His funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday. That will all be held at the Clearfield South stake center at 2186 S. 125 West in Clearfield, his mom said.

Joshua Jones loved motorcycles, and there will be a motorcycle procession to the cemetery, according to Ruth Jones.
