WEST JORDAN — A 66-year-old West Valley man is in critical condition after the motorcycle he was driving was rear-ended by another vehicle Saturday morning, police said.

Emergency crews responded to a report of the accident near 6850 S. Redwood Road at about 8:30 a.m., according to West Jordan police officer Scott List.

List said witnesses told police they saw a compact car “exceeding the speed limit (and) weaving in and out of traffic” driving in the southbound lane when the driver rear-ended a motorcycle in one of the lanes.

The motorcyclist was ejected from his vehicle and was taken to Intermountain Medical Center with severe head injuries. List said the motorcyclist was not wearing a helmet. The man’s name was not immediately released.

List said no citations were issued to the driver of the other vehicle as of Saturday morning, but police are still investigating the accident. He said the driver of the car was a 26-year-old man.

The crash closed off both north and southbound lanes of Redwood Road from 6200 South to 7000 South for more than two hours as police looked for any possible evidence in investigating the crash, List said. Those lanes were reopened just before noon.

List added it is important for drivers to pay attention on the roadways and to obey listed speed limits.

More information will be posted as it becomes available.
