BOX ELDER COUNTY — A Layton woman is dead following a single-car accident on I-15 between Honeyville and Brigham City Friday evening, police said.
Officials at the Utah Highway Patrol said at around 8 p.m., 19-year-old Alexis McCashland was driving south just after the Honeyville exit in a 2007 white sedan when she apparently lost control of the vehicle.
Investigators said witnesses told them they saw the sedan passing another vehicle in the right lane when the sedan drifted left onto a rumble strip. The driver then over-corrected by swerving right before swerving back to the left, crashing into a cable barrier and rolling over the barrier and landing in the northbound lane.
Police said McCashland was wearing a seatbelt, but died from internal injuries.
The exact cause of the crash is under investigation, UHP officials added.
