SALT LAKE CITY — A shooting in the parking lot of a Salt Lake escort business resulted in one man suffering injuries, one employee arrested and the seizure of at least five guns, according to police.

About 12:30 a.m. Thursday, two groups confronted each other in the parking lot of Companions Escorts, 60 W. Paxton, said Salt Lake police detective Greg Wilking.

Wilking said what started the fight was still under investigation Tuesday. But the confrontation, which included employees of the escort service on one side, escalated.

"Then the guns came out," Wilking said.

Alvin Salima, 34, "shot several rounds from a rifle at the victim … striking him once in the leg," a Salt Lake County Jail report states.

Salima, an employee of the escort service, was prohibited from owning firearms because of a prior conviction, the report states. He was arrested for investigation of four counts of felony discharge of a firearm.

The man shot in the leg did not suffer life-threatening injuries, Wilking said. After rounding up several suspects, a total of five guns were recovered. Additional arrests were pending as of Tuesday.

Salima was charged in April in Ogden with aggravated kidnapping, aggravated burglary, aggravated assault and possession of a weapon by a restricted person in another allegedly violent incident with a neighbor, according to court records.
