FORT WAYNE, Ind. — The Fort Wayne Komets scored two goals in the final period to open the ECHL Western Conference semifinals with a 6-4 win over the Utah Grizzlies on Friday night.
The Komets jumped out to a 3-0 lead early in the first period, but Utah rallied to tie the game at 4-4 in the second period.
Ryan Hayes and Barry Almeida each had a goal and two assists to lead the Grizzlies, who face the Comets at 5:30 p.m. MT Friday in Game 2 before returning to the Maverik Center for three-straight games beginning next Wednesday.
