SALT LAKE — Police arrested a man who allegedly hit a woman with a hammer, leaving her in critical condition Thursday, officials said.

Earon Lisenbee, 33, allegedly made a call and said he needed to bury the woman he hit. The person he called told police she heard a woman moaning in the background, according to a probable cause statement from the Salt Lake County Sheriff’s office.

When police officers met with Lisenbee’s mother near his home in the area of 500 South and 900 East, he called his mom and hung up after she urged him to talk to police, according to the probable cause statement.

Police said they then entered his home and found Lisenbee on top of the woman he attacked. He refused to obey their commands and resisted when they tried to take him into custody. During the arrest, an officer was cut, the probable cause statement said.

The woman was taken to the hospital in critical condition. When officials searched Lisenbee’s home, they found about five teeth in the bedroom they believe belonged to the victim. The house was in “disarray,” and there were broken bottles inside, according to the probable cause statement.

Lisenbee said the woman was not injured before he blacked out. When he came to, she was severely injured and he thought she was dead. He admitted to being with her when she received her injuries, the probable cause statement said.

Lisenbee was arrested and booked into the Salt Lake County Jail on suspicion of aggravated assault.
