NORTH SALT LAKE — A North Salt Lake woman has been offered an internship at Disney World after she and her sister launched a local princess business.
Sasha Sloan said after Disney's "Frozen" was released, people would often tell her and her sister that they looked like Anna and Elsa from the hit film. She said their personalities even coincide with the characters.
"People and even our parents would tease us and be like, 'You guys are the real life 'Frozen' sisters,'" Sloan said. "I'm so much like Anna in my personality, and she's so much like Elsa. We've both done acting our whole lives, and we both sing so we got the full soundtrack and we'd sing it in the car together. It really was kind of a bonding point for us."
Because of their resemblance to the characters, Sloan said she and her sister got involved in a Make-a-Wish event and dressed up as Elsa and Anna. The Sloan sisters decided to continue doing the character re-enactments, and they launched their own company, Happily Ever After, in October 2014.
Sloan said their organization would often perform at charity events and for nonprofit foundations, and they also began going to private parties to help offset the cost for new costumes. She said they got so busy that they hired 19 other women to help out with the character performances.
"We had such a high demand ... that we started to hire more and more girls to be part of the whole team," Sloan said. "We have a whole princess squad, and we go do events together."
Sloan is currently a student at Brigham Young University and decided to try out for the Disney College Program. She applied and went to an audition when the program was in Salt Lake City in October 2015.
"I totally thought I just had no shot," she said. "There were 300 girls, and everyone was gorgeous and so talented. ... I got the call a couple weeks later that I had been accepted into the internship program. I was super excited. I obviously just immediately called my sister, and we both cried."
Sloan began her internship in January at Disney World and will work until April. After the internship, she plans to continue running Happily Ever After.
"When I was growing up, the princesses were just such a huge role model for me and my sister," she said. "And we talk about it, we call it the power of the princess where girls just worship and idolize Elsa and Anna and Ariel and Rapunzel and all these princesses. And so to be able to channel that and use it for good ... that's been so incredible."
