Power goes out for more than 5K Rocky Mountain Power customers

SALT LAKE CITY — More than 5,000 Rocky Mountain Power customers went without power Monday afternoon.

According to Rocky Mountain Power, 2,759 customers in Mapleton initially went without power Tuesday afternoon. That number dropped to 161 by about 5:30. It is unknown when their power will be restored.

There are 307 customers in the Decker Lake area of West Valley City without power, and it is expected to be restored around 8:30 p.m.

In Sandy, 2,205 customers were without power until about 4:45 p.m.

A Rocky Mountain Power spokesman said the outage in Mapleton was caused by a transmission interruption.

It is unknown what caused the outages in Sandy and West Valley City.
