WEST VALLEY CITY — West Valley City police are searching for one of two men who they say forced their way into a home and injured two people.

Two men knocked on the door of a home near 4400 South and 5600 West around 8:30 p.m. Sunday and asked to talk to a man who was not home at the time, according to Lt. Julie Jorgensen of the West Valley Police Department.

She said the men were frustrated that the man was not there and forced their way into the home, where they used a baseball bat and a knife to beat and stab two people.

One of the victims was able to grab the knife from the attacker and use it against him, Jorgensen said.

Neither of the two victims — a man and woman — was seriously injured.

Both intruders ran from the home. The one who was stabbed later checked himself into Jordan Valley Medical Center. He was in serious condition and coming out of surgery Monday morning, Jorgensen said.

Investigators are waiting to talk to the man in the hospital to learn more about the other still on the loose. Police believe he is not a threat to the public because the attack was not random. Police do not yet know a motive, Jorgensen said.
