Former BYU point guard Jimmer Fredette, a one-time NBA lottery pick, was selected No. 2 overall in the 2015 NBA D-League draft Saturday.

Fredette, the 26-year-old former Naismith national player of the year and one-time BYU all-time scoring leader who currently ranks second in school history in career points, was selected by the Westchester Knicks, an affiliate of the New York Knicks in upstate New York.

With the Knicks, the Glens Falls, New York, native gets a chance to rebuild a career that has sputtered since being drafted 10th overall by the Sacramento Kings in 2011. In four seasons since, Fredette has played for three teams, most recently with the San Antonio Spurs after signing a training camp contract.

Fredette played in 229 games over four seasons, averaging 6.1 points in 13 minutes per game.

Fredette, who grew up a Knicks fan, was waived Oct. 21, making him eligible for the D-League draft with which he signed last Thursday. He remains an NBA free agent and can sign with any interested team during the season.

The Westchester Knicks are not a traditional minor-league affiliate of the Knicks, and do not own Fredette's rights. The D-League team does, however, practice at the New York NBA team's practice facility in Tarrytown, New York.

The Idaho Stampede, a Utah Jazz affiliate, selected former Arizona State post Jeff Ayres with the No. 1 pick of the D-League draft. Former Baylor standout Perry Jones III and Kansas State alum Cartier Martin were selected by the Iowa Energy at with back-to-back picks, and St. John's product Rysheed Jordan rounded out the top five with the Delaware 87ers' selection.
