MIDVALE — Police are searching for the driver of a stolen rental car involved in an auto-pedestrian crash that left a 56-year-old man dead Thursday evening.

Police say the man was crossing 7200 South at 50 West around 6:40 p.m. when he was hit by a 2016 Ford Escape, said Unified police detective Jared Richardson. The man, whose name wasn't immediately released, died from his injuries at a nearby hospital.

Police say the stolen Escape is white and likely has noticeable damage to its windshield and right front fender, according to Richardson. The SUV is a rental vehicle listed as stolen, with Utah license plate No. X953XS.

Witnesses told police the Escape driver is a white woman or teenage girl with blonde hair.

Anyone with information related to the incident is asked to call Unified police at 801-743-7000.
