JUAB COUNTY — A litter-laden campsite in Juab County was cleaned over the weekend thanks to local deputies, who filled a 16-foot trailer with trash that was left behind by a man who lived there most of the summer.
A man overstayed his welcome when he parked his RV in Chicken Creek Campground near in Levan, Utah and stayed well over the 16-day limit.
The location is quite scenic, featuring a small creek running through it and a lot of nice shade. But complaints started coming in in early July that the man was over the stay limit. Sheriff's deputies said he agreed to move on, but he didn't budge.
A few follow-up visits from deputies didn't help until they finally had the man's RV towed, but he came back in another vehicle before deputies cleaned up the garbage for good.
The sheriff believes the man may be a transient, who not only made a mess along the creek, but created a health hazard.
"It's a problem," Juab County Sheriff Doug Anderson said. "It's an unsightly problem. It's a sanitation problem. It's a violation of littering."
After cleaning up the mess, deputies were able to track down the squatter and issue him a citation. He will now how to answer to several charges in court.
