WEST VALLEY CITY — A woman died after being hit by a pickup truck while crossing a street Saturday night, police said.

The woman was crossing from the east side of Redwood Road to the west side at about 3390 South when she was struck by a white pickup truck, according to West Valley City police Lt. Dalan Taylor. He said the woman had almost completed crossing the street at the time when she was hit.

Several witnesses called police and tried to administer CPR, but the woman was declared dead at the scene when paramedics arrived, Taylor said. Her identity has not yet been released. The woman's dog, which she was walking at the time she was struck, was not injured and has been taken into police custody.

The driver of the white pickup truck remained on scene to wait for police to arrive, according to Taylor.
