WEST VALLEY CITY — Police on Friday asked for the public's help to find a car and driver that hit and killed a man as he ran across several lanes of traffic on Bangerter Highway.

Bruce Reutner, 50, was driving north on Bangerter Highway around 9:30 p.m. Thursday when a tire on his car blew out, according to West Valley City Police Lt. Dalan Taylor. The car ended up in the median near 3750 South.

Reutner exited the car, tried to cross east on Bangerter Highway and was struck by another northbound vehicle. That car did not stop. Reutner died on the scene.

Police were looking for a 1995-1997 Toyota Tercel, similar to cars shown in photos they released. The car is either dark, possibly green, or white. It is missing pieces of the bumper and the front grill piece that sits between the headlights.

The car also has a broken passenger-side headlight and turn signal light, and significant damage to the right side front.

Anyone with information about the hit-and-run or the suspect vehicle should call West Valley City Police at 801-840-4000.

Taylor reminded motorists to stay in their car when having car troubles. Call police and they will respond and block traffic.
