PROVO — The first week of fall camp is in the books, and BYU football is preparing for its season opener Sept. 5 at Nebraska.

But that also means the Cornhuskers are getting ready for the Cougars.

One Lincoln, Nebraska, newspaper columnist gives a look ahead to the matchup, and a BYU spiker was laying down kills in the Pan Am Cup this weekend in Reno.

Here's the rest of the BYU news from the Internet.

'Guarded optimism' ahead of Nebraska opener

One Lincoln Journal Star columnist sees a sense of 'guarded optimism' among BYU faithful in relation to the Cougars' road opener against the Huskers.

Steven Sipple spoke with several members of the local media as well as some BYU fans to gather a picture of the Huskers' opponent over the weekend. What he got paints a picture that is part confidence, part skepticism and little depth.

"Yes, the Cougars feature the dynamic senior dual-threat quarterback (Taysom Hill)," Sipple wrote. "But they're coming off three-straight 8-5 seasons. Their defense is suspect, especially in the secondary — again. Plus, the Cougars recently lost their second-most important player on offense, senior running back Jamaal Williams, who withdrew from school for personal reasons."

Need a BYU-focused lock screen?

If you still need to spruce up your iPhone wallpaper or laptop background ahead of the 2015 season, one BYU fan has an idea.

Dribbble user Rusty Smith created this 2015 BYU football wallpaper that features game time and broadcast info for each Cougars opponent this season. The design uses BYU's retro royal blue, as well as an old-school Cougar logo — and splashes in retro logos for each 2015 opponent.

Patch strong in international tourney

Football season is right around the corner, but a Cougar spiker had himself quite the game this weekend.

BYU men's volleyball player Ben Patch had 21 kills for the U.S. volleyball squad in a 3-2 victory over Puerto Rico in a consolation match at the Pan Am Cup in Reno, Nevada, on Sunday.

The United States rallied to down its Caribbean island territory 21-25, 15-25, 25-22, 30-28, 15-9 to set up a fifth-place match against Mexico on Monday at 4 p.m. MT.

Hunt leads women's soccer by Arizona in exhibition

Recently returned missionary Paige Hunt provided the match-winner in the second half as the No. 19 BYU women's soccer team wrapped up its exhibition season with a 3-2 win over Arizona on Saturday night at South Field.

Ashley Hatch and Brittain Dearden also scored for the Cougars. Former Alta standout Lexe Selman scored the opening goal for the Wildcats, who also got a goal from Laura Pimienta.

BYU opens the 2015 regular season Friday against No. 18 Cal in Hawaii. The Cougars also play No. 3 Stanford on Aug. 24 as part of the Outrigger Resorts Soccer Classic.
