ST. GEORGE — St. George police arrested a man Friday after he allegedly left a residence with his 6-year-old daughter.
Police said Shane Robert Swenson, who is the child's father but a non-custodial parent, made contact with his daughter at a family member's residence near South Dixie Drive and left with her around 3:30 p.m.
Family members realized the child and Swenson, 31, were missing and tried to locate the pair before contacting police about 7:30 p.m., according to a press release.
Police said local businesses, motels and residences were alerted about the missing child and father.
Acting on tips that a man and a young girl matching their descriptions had been seen walking through local motels on south Bluff Street, officers were eventually able to find Swenson and his daughter after they left a motel around 10 p.m. Friday, police said.
The child was in good health and was being reunited with her mother. Swenson, who police say suffers from mental health issues and is homeless, was taken into custody, they said.
