SALT LAKE CITY — When you sleep on the street or in a shelter, you're lucky if you get a bite to eat. Clean clothes and a haircut are practically fantasies.

In Salt Lake on Sunday, some giving stylists made that dream a reality.

"At some point in our life we always need a hand," said stylist Lisandra Brunemeier. "I feel like if I'm in a place to do something to help, I better be doing it."

People young and old got a turn in the chairs, getting their hair trimmed and styled. For many, it's the first time in a long time they've had someone wash and cut their hair.

The hope is that a new look could lead to a new job and a new life, or just boost their self-esteem.

"It's just hard being homeless and not being able to give my kids what they really deserve," said mother Carolina Tores. "I'm really thankful that they're doing this for all of us."

Several organizations joined in to help find jobs and housing for those in need. Along with their new looks, dozes of homeless Utahns received food and other items to make life a little easier.
