CENTERVILLE — A man barricaded himself in his parent's house after walking away from the Davis County Jail Friday, according to police.
The residences surrounding the home in the area of were evacuated as the SWAT situation unfolded, according to Centerville police assistant Chief Paul Child. The man exited the house at about 3:40 p.m. and was taken into custody without incident.
The 34-year-old man walked away from a secure work facility at the Davis County Jail at about 9 a.m., according to Child. He said Centerville Police Department was asked to check the home.
"We eventually made contact with the mother at the residence who advised us that her son was there," he said.
Child said they persuaded the man's mother to stay out of the house after she came to the door. The man was believed to have been alone in the home with a small dog.
A felony warrant was been issued for the man's arrest, according to Child. He declined to describe the charges for which he was being held at the county jail.
"We have information that he does have access to a handgun in the home," Child said. "He does have a criminal history that causes us some concern for his safety and ours."
Child said multiple agencies were on scene working to establish communication with the man.
Updates will be made as more information becomes available.
