SALT LAKE CITY — Police are looking for a woman in connection with the murder investigation of a Salt Lake man who was found dead in his home last week.

Jill Rae Montoya, 34, is "now considered a suspect" in the death of 57-year-old Edwin Walker, Salt Lake police said Tuesday.

Walker's body was found in his home, 1459 S. Roberta St., on July 6 after an acquaintance asked police to conduct a welfare check. Walker apparently suffered some kind of trauma, but investigators declined Tuesday to release details about how he was killed or exactly how long he was dead before being discovered.

"We're still trying to nail all that down," said Salt Lake police detective Greg Wilking.

Montoya, of Salt Lake City, was initially called a "person of interest" by police. However, she was upgraded to "suspect" status at least partly because she hasn't responded to officers' attempts to make contact with her, Wilking said.

"We haven't been able to talk to her and locate her," he said.

Court records show Montoya was previously convicted of aggravated robbery, assault, aggravated burglary, attempted theft by receiving stolen property and having a fake ID with the intent of being another person.

Montoya is often in the area of 1300 S. State, but has recently been seen elsewhere around Salt Lake County, investigators said. Anyone with information related to this case is asked to call Salt Lake police at 801-799-3000. Anonymous tipsters can text information to 274637, include the keyword TIPSLCPD and refer to case number 15-122979.
