WEST VALLEY CITY — Police say a fight between two gang members led to the stabbing death of a Salt Lake man over the weekend.
David Louis Candelario, 21, of Salt Lake City, was arrested Monday for investigation of murder in the death of Fidenzo Urcino.
Urcino, 20, was fatally stabbed about 2 a.m. Saturday following an altercation. His body was found on the lawn of an apartment complex at 1501 W. 2320 South. Neighbors also reported hearing shots just prior to the incident.
Candelario and Urcino had been at a party. Witnesses told investigators that both men belonged to separate gangs, according to a Salt Lake County Jail report.
The two men got into a verbal argument before taking their confrontation outside. At some point during the fight, Urcino flashed a handgun tucked in his waistband and pulled it out, the report states. Gunshots were heard before witnesses saw the two men get into a physical confrontation.
As Candelario ran away, some of Urcino's friends started shooting at him, the report states. Another man drove Candelario to a family member's home. He turned himself in at the West Valley Police Department on Monday, according to police. He was arrested for investigation of murder and obstruction of justice.
A second man, Xavier Anderson, was arrested for investigation of obstruction of justice.
The case is believed to be gang related. However, the level of gang involvement is still being investigated.

Urcino had just been released from jail two or three weeks ago, according to family members. He was scheduled to go to trial in October in an assault case that involved domestic violence, according to court records.
In 2014, he was convicted of failing to stop at the command of an officer and sentenced to 180 days in jail. He was convicted on a similar charge in 2012.
Urcino pleaded no contest to an amended charge of attempted possession of a dangerous weapon by a restricted person in 2012. He became a restricted person by being convicted in juvenile court in 2010 of retaliation against a victim, witness or information, according to court records.
Court records show Candelario has a relatively minor adult criminal history.
