SALT LAKE CITY — A construction worker suffered minor injuries after falling further into hole he was working in Tuesday.

The man, who police say was in his late 30s, was working just before 9 a.m. near 1900 North and 2200 West, about 17 feet down a 20-foot hole when he fell backward about three feet to the bottom, said Salt Lake fire spokesman Jasen Asay.

The man briefly lost consciousness and hurt his back and knee, Asay said.

Salt Lake fire crews, members of the Air National Guard and the Salt Lake City International Airport lowered a basket down to the man and pulled him out. The rescue lasted about 20 minutes.

The worker was transported to a local hospital in fair condition.
